The Goal of Relational Research
The company’s object is the promotion of constructive and effective relationships within and between groups of people for the furtherance of human well-being in the UK and globally, and in the context of both public and private life, by, in particular (but without limitation):
• Promoting and publishing research into Relational Thinking, meaning the application of the relational principles of the Christian and Jewish faith traditions for economic and social issues to the organisation and conduct of healthy human relationships in public and private life, so that the results of such research may bring public benefit,
• Improving the delivery of public services in the health, education, criminal justice and other sectors and improving the effectiveness of business organisations by promoting Relational Thinking and relational best practice,
• Providing education and training in the relational values of the Christian and Jewish faith traditions, in ways that improve international community, organisational and personal relationships for public benefit,
• Advising governments, corporations and other public and private bodies on the application and implementation of Relational Thinking in policy and practice,
• Assisting the establishment and development of non-profit organisations at national, regional, sectoral and local levels committed to promoting and practising high levels of relational excellence, and
• Carrying out any other activity which is conducive to building international peace, relational societies, relational organisations and relational communities.
Our Team
Directors
Michael did his PhD in agricultural economics at Cornell University (1973) before working as a research fellow with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and economics consultant with the World Bank in East Africa. Since 1974, Michael led a project in Kenya to establish small-scale vegetable dehydration factories to export to Europe. He was later CEO of a company seeking to create jobs using social finance called Citylife Ltd (now Allia Limited), co-founder of Equity for Africa, and also co-founder of Relational-Analytics Ltd based in UK for measurement of relationships in public and private sector organisations. He is currently co-authoring a book on the concept of a ‘Relational Instability’. Michael is an economist and social scientist who has launched a number of significant peace initiatives.
Paul Mills was awarded a PhD in economics from Cambridge University in the UK in 1995. He subsequently worked for the UK Treasury in a number of positions – including head of research at the Debt Management office and team leaders for Debt and Reserves Management and Financial Stability and Regulatory Policy. He then worked in the IMF as senior economist (Monetary and Capital Markets), before joining the London office of the IMF as senior economist, located in the Bank of England. Paul has had long-term interest in working with Michael Schluter on the relational economy, and relational finance from within a Christian worldview. This follows from his PhD research in financial economics which focused on financial fragility, debt deflation and Islamic banking.
Catherine Hammond works as a principal analyst for a global management consultancy firm focused on telecoms, media and technology. She conducts research on key topics within the industry, with a focus on business use of telecoms and IT services. She has previously worked as a consultant undertaking work for a wide range of operators, regulators and government agencies in Europe and Asia, and had roles as a secondary school teacher and full time mother. She holds an MA in mathematics from the University of Cambridge.
